The Tadar camera like the Tadarida bat from which it derives its name, uses only safe, natural energy
reflection. It‘s sensors detect energy, at 3 mm wavelengths, that is naturally emitted or reflected from
objects, like the sensing of a warm handshake. At this wavelength clothes become transparent but dense
objects such as explosives and weapons hidden under clothing, block the body’s natural radiation and
reflect a clear profile of the blocked energy field.
When a person stands in front of the Tadar camera, they are scanned, bare skin or clothed, to measure
their body’s natural radiation against a temperature controlled background panel. The presence of a dense
object will block the body’s natural energy and the Tadar camera detects the background temperature that
is reflected off the object. The resultant thermal contrast presents a clear image of the suspect object.

Tadar employs no energy absorbent materials and is, therefore, highly efficient in its use of
the low levels of millimetre-wave energy being detected. As a consequence, TADAR is capable
of distinguishing between materials with small differences in reflectivity.
FREQUENCY INDEPENDENT
Tadar’s reflective surfaces are optimised to focus the maximum amount of incident energy
at the receivers. Their shape and size are independent of the wavelength to which the
receivers are tuned, so they can be dynamically used over a wide frequency range.
SIMPLE MECHANICS
Tadar employs a very novel and simple mechanical design that permits a portal to be
scanned very quickly and reliably at low mechanical rotation speeds. The design is compact
giving a system with a small footprint.
MINIMISES RECEIVER NUMBER
Tadar’s combination of highly-efficient optics, fast raster scanning and state-of-the-art lownoise
receivers minimises the number of receivers necessary to scan a given portal area.
